The japanese group ntt communications bolsters its presence in barcelona creating 21 new jobs

Japanese ntt communications, one of the world’s largest ict providers, has strengthened its position in catalonia by enlarging and consolidating its client support centre, which it recently located in barcelona. with the centre’s growth, serving all europe, the group has created 21 new jobs. the investment project has had the support of invest in catalonia, the catalan government department for foreign investment, which advised the company throughout the expansion process of its offices. 

according to the firm, ntt communications decided to consolidate its presence in barcelona because it considers it to be a benchmark city in terms of innovation and technology. in the words of the general manager of ntt europe in spain, roger vilà, “barcelona is a well-regarded pool of talent and know-how and a city highly positioned internationally, something that represents an extremely important asset to companies such as ours”. 

the barcelona client support centre handles problems and queries for the company’s european clients in 5 languages, 24 hours a day all year round. 

the japanese group began working in catalonia in 2001 and with this project it now has a staff of almost 200 people, in both its barcelona and madrid offices. this expansion is only part of the investment plan ntt communications is carrying out in barcelona, with the opening of a new office two years ago and the consolidation of a competence centre for cloud services in 2012, as well as a new point of presence (pop) for its tier-1 global ip network in 2013, giving catalan companies a more direct and faster internet access. 

the news of this investment arrived the same week the minister of enterprise and labour met with around 30 japanese firms operating in catalonia. this meeting enabled attendants to learn more about the situation and future outlooks of these companies. at present there are 186 japanese multinationals in catalonia, a figure representing 80% of the total japanese firms operating in spain. in fact, catalonia is one of the european regions with most industrial firms from japan, and last year was the leading region in europe in terms of investment attraction from that country.
