Starting in 2017, Korean Air will connect Seoul and Barcelona with the first ever direct flight

•This is a project attracted and managed over the last two years by the Catalan Government Exterior Office for Trade and Investment in Seoul (Catalonia Trade & Investment), the Catalan Tourism Agency, Catalonia Airports and the Barcelona Committee for the Development of Airline Routes (CDRA).

•The first flight operated by South Korea’s most important airline will be on April 28th, with the forecast of three flights per week.

•The Minister for Business and Knowledge, Jordi Baiget, explained that “there are many Catalans with economic, cultural or country interests in South Korea” and that the connection should “attract people from South Korea and the region”.

Korean Air, South Korea’s most important airline, announced this Wednesday that it will connect Seoul and Barcelona via a direct flight for the first time ever. This Asian company declared that flights will begin on April 28th, 2017, with a forecast for three flights per week, on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, using B777-200 aircraft with a capacity for 248 passengers. 

This is a project attracted and managed over the last two years by the Catalan Government Exterior Office for Trade and Investment in Seoul (Catalonia Trade & Investment), the Catalan Tourism Agency, Catalonia Airports and the Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (CDRA). 

The Minister for Business and Knowledge, Jordi Baiget, who is heading an institutional and trade mission to Panama and Cuba until next Friday has declared from the Panamanian capital that “it is with great pleasure we can announce that as of April, 2017, there will be a direct flight between Seoul and Barcelona: the culmination of two years of work to achieve this end”.Baiget explained that “there are many Catalans with economic, cultural or country interests in South Korea” and that the flight should “attract to Catalonia people from this country and from the region, especially Japan” for “business or tourism”. “We want it to be a bidirectional and balanced route”, he emphasised. 

Set up in 1969, Korean Air has a fleet of 158 aircraft. Currently it operates flights to 129 destinations in 46 countries. In 2015 it handled some 25 million passengers. The company, with 21,000 employees, has its hub in Incheon international airport in Seoul.
