Austrian lighting multinational XAL opens a design and development center in Barcelona

Austrian multinational XAL, a manufacturer of lighting systems, has opened a design and development center in Barcelona, ​​the only one outside of Austria. This investment project has been supported by the Catalan Government, through Catalonia Trade & Investment and Barcelona Activa, the City Council’s economic and local development agency.

XAL has invested one million euros in the new 300m2-facilities located in the center of Barcelona and has created around ten jobs. The Barcelona Creative Lab will design and manufacture technical lighting products for facilities (hospitals, schools, shops...) as well as decorative lighting for houses and hotels.

According to XAL’s manager in Barcelona, ​​Xavier Fernández "there is an important network of companies in the lighting sector and interesting suppliers, especially in the decorative field" in the city. "It also offers talented professionals, as well as recognized design schools, besides the attractiveness of Barcelona as a city”, which make it “the ideal destination”, he emphasizes.

The company, based in Graz (Austria), was founded in 1989 and has a workforce of over 1,300 employees globally. XAL is present in thirty countries, but it centralizes production in its headquarters, where it has a team of more than 80 engineers.
