A delegation of seven catalan start-ups attend london technology week

this week, london technology week received a visit from seven catalan start-ups, most of them related to technology sector. the group of start-ups is comprised of finanzarel, captio, tech4fin, private network investments, capital cell, ecrowd invest and social currencies management. the mission, organised by catalonia trade & investment, the catalan government public agency for foreign investment attraction. the mission was headed by núria betriu, director of industry of the catalan department for business and knowledge, who used this opportunity to publicise investment opportunities in catalonia. betriu also held meetings with the government of wales and visited british companies and investment funds, and presented at the event barcelona's upcoming tech scene: new horizons in catalonia.

in addition to individual meetings, the catalan start-ups participated in networking organised by greater london enterprise limited, innovate uk, and the london & partners public agency, among others. they also visited the start-up accelerator startupbootcamp fintech.

for her part, the director general of industry held meetings with the government of wales and visit british companies and investment funds, some of which have already invested in start-ups in catalonia. this monday, núria betriu presented at the event barcelona's upcoming tech scene: new horizons in catalonia, with the aim of presenting investment and business opportunities provided by catalan companies in the uk. as part of the mission, she also visited the premises of the celsa group company in wales.


this trade mission also serve as a chance for start-ups to learn, first-hand, about one of the ecosystems with the most private and alternative investment culture at an international level. indeed, 43% of european ‘unicorns’ (companies with more than 1,000 million euros of turnover) are based in the uk, a country where about 70% of funding used by companies is ‘non-bank’.
