The Port of Barcelona has initiated 17 measures to outline the future citizen port.

The Port Vell, Port of Barcelona's oldest harbor, will receive more than 86 million euros of public-private investment in the upcoming months, corresponding to 17 actions that will significantly transform this port city area. These projects, carried out between 2023 and 2024, will change the appearance of the Port of Barcelona, providing it with extra spaces and new services for people to enjoy.

The 17 actions represent the first phase in the great transformation that Port Vell must undergo in the coming years, and it will be finished before the opening date of the 37th Sailing America's Cup, on August 22, 2024.

To promote and expedite this transformation, the Port of Barcelona has decided to provide the Port Vell Urban Development Management with new concessions and more financial and human resources.

"We need more muscle in the fundamental management tool of Port Vell, the Urban Management. For this reason, we will expand the required competencies and human resources to support all the projects we will develop in this area. We are making a significant management effort in major projects to be finished in a record time of 15 months", the president of the Port of Barcelona, Lluís Salvadó, explained during the presentation of the investments destined for the port's citizen area.

“Agility has been a constant in the work carried out by the Port of Barcelona since the city was chosen to host the 2024 America's Cup”

37th America's Cup Barcelona

"Agility has been a constant in the work carried out by the Port of Barcelona since the city was chosen to host the 2024 America's Cup", as noted by the director of Port Vell Urban Planning, David Pino.

The delivery of the bases to the six teams of the sailing competition has been moved ahead of the initially planned schedule, and four of these teams have already started working on the grounds. These are the bases for INEOS Britannia, Alinghi Red Bull Racing, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, and Emirates Team New Zealand.

It is expected that the grounds for the NYYC American Magic base will be handed over to the team this week, and work is underway on the grounds the Oriente Express Racing Team, the last team to register for the competition, will occupy. "This summer, we will already have all teams of America's Cup in Barcelona sailing in our waters," David Pino emphasized.

Once the 37th edition of America's Cup is over, the Port of Barcelona will continue to work hard to make the "in-depth transformation of Port Vell" a reality, added Lluís Salvadó, referring to projects such as the renovation of Port of Barcelona's north docks, where Blue Tech Port Barcelona will be located, a new blue economy innovation center that will house startups, international institutions in the maritime environment, innovation centers for large companies linked to logistics, transport, port activity and training centers such as the Barcelona Logistics Center.
