21 Feb 2013

Europastry has just opened a new 4,000 square metre cake and pastry production plant in Sarral (Conca de Barberà shire), following an investment of €20 million. The facility has generated 120 places of work between direct and indirect jobs, adding to the nearly 2,000 employees working for the firm at the current time throughout Catalonia.

According to chief executive, Jordi Gallès, half of the production at the new facility is earmarked for export to countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, the USA, Singapore, South Korea and France, which the company aims to increase over coming years following 2012 results, which saw exports rise to some 20% of local production.

The plant at Sarral opened in 1991 and since then the company has gone on to invest a further €60 million in the industrial complex. Last year, the quality frozen pastry and bread group registered a turnover of €389 million through sales to an estimated 27,000 clients worldwide.
