the russian mobile games and videogame company, zeptolab, will locate its new game development centre in barcelona’s mapfre tower and expects to create up to 100 jobs by the close of the coming year. this centre, which will be working for a worldwide market, will be aiming to design and develop three new videogames with augmented reality and 3d animation technology.

king of thieves, my om nom, pudding monsters and the cut the rope saga are all games created by zeptolab and which are present in the usa, india, china and latin america under a freemium business model. in other words, users download the zeptolab games for free but can also pay to obtain certain extras when they play.

established in 2010 by the brothers efim and semyon voinov in moscow, the company shows a turnover of between 15 and 20 million euros. this is the second delegation that zeptolab sets up outside russia, with london being the first.

technology is making its impact in the catalan capital, where in recent years a whole games sector ecosystem has been formed, containing companies such as social point, digital legends, winko, akamon, the british company king—which arrived in 2012—and the acceleration programme gamebcn.
