Scoot to establish in Barcelona and create 60 jobs in 2018

Electric mobility company Scoot, based in San Francisco (California, United States), has chosen Barcelona to begin its expansion in Europe. The brand has opened its first headquarters outside the United States in the Catalan capital, which has enabled the creation of 30 jobs with the forecast of doubling this figure before 2018 and reaching 60 workers.

Scoot’s investment project in Catalonia has been supported by the Catalan Government through Catalonia Trade & Investment.

Thus, Barcelona becomes the first city after San Francisco that will host the company’s electric vehicle rental network. Specifically, Scoot is launching this system today with a fleet of 500 motorcycles and hundreds of electric bicycles, which the user can locate, book and unlock in real time through a mobile app. In the coming months, the brand will extend this service to electric cars "in order to position itself as a leader in multimodal electrical transport," according to Mar Pallas, VP Europe Market Development at Scoot.

According to the General Manager of Scoot in Spain, Enrico Sargiacomo, "we have chosen Barcelona for its high interest in ecology and sustainability of the urban mobility model". "Scoot not only allows you to move around the city in an agile and comfortable way, but its impact on the environment is 25% lower than that of combustion engines. That is why we collaborate with the city council and the main public institutions of San Francisco to plan and implement improvements in the urban mobility system", he underlines.

Users of Scoot’s rental vehicles in San Francisco have traveled through its electric vehicle rental network more than 7 million kilometers in the American city, which according to the company has avoided the emission of 3,500 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2). The company was founded in the United States in 2012.
