Public investment in r&d rose 39% in 2008

catalonia invested eur 3.28 billion last year in research and development projects (r&d), up 12.9% compared to 2007, the spanish national statistics institute said. businesses continued to lead the way with a eur 2 billion investment in research and development, a 9.5% increase compared to 2007. universities also increased their r&d investments by 6.9%.
experts believe that catalonia could be on its way to achieve research investments equivalent to 2% of its gdp, a measure that would position the region among the world's most advanced countries.
