Norwegian Airlines brings Barcelona and Silicon Valley even closer together
Catalan Economy
07 Sep 2016
The low-cost Nordic airline, Norwegian Airlines, has just announced that it will operate four new flights out of Barcelona, two of which will fly directly to the USA’s west coast, landing in San Francisco and Los Angeles, with another two flying to New York and Miami. This means that getting to America’s west coast will be possible without transfers through other airports such as Heathrow or Amsterdam.
Which is great news for Barcelona entrepreneurial ecosystem as now Silicon Valley can be reached in one simple flight, and will help to forge even closer bonds between the two start-up cities. With 325.000 intercontinental seats next year, and 170,000 straight into California, this San Francisco route will be the only direct flight out of Spain to this US city.
The flights – in Boeing 787-8’s based permanently in Barcelona Airport – will run all year round, four time a week. They are forecasted to start on June 5th next year and prices will start at €199. Not only is this good news for both business and leisure travellers, it also represents an increase in staff in Norwegian Airlines.
