Mobile World Congress (MWC), the world’s main mobile technology fair, will have an economic impact of 497 million euros in Barcelona this year. The congress, that will take place from the 24th to the 27th of February in Barcelona’s Gran Via fair venue, will gather over 110,000 assistants and 3,000 speakers from 200 countries, similar figures as the previous year, when it set a record. GSMA’s CEO, John Hoffman, highlighted that, since the first edition in 2006, MWC has had an economic impact of more than 5,300MEUR in Barcelona.

This year's edition, under the slogan 'Limitless intelligent connectivity', will focus its activities on topics such as 5G technology, artificial intelligence (AI), industry X, customer relationship, privacy and security, and media and entertainment.

Among the assistants, there will be 8,000 CEOs from companies such as Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Lenovo, Intel or Telefonica. Apart from these companies, MWC will bring together government delegations from 179 countries. According to Hoffman, this event “is not just a mobile congress but wants to lead the digital transformation”.

The congress also includes parallel events organized by GSMA, such as the 4 Years From Now (4YFN), dedicated to the start-up ecosystem, the 4th edition of Women for Tech (Women4Tech) and the 4th edition of the Youth Mobile Festival (YoMo), the mobile youth festival.
