
Catalan exports grow by 1.1% in 2018 and set a new record for the eighth consecutive year

Catalan exports have grown by 1.1% in 2018 and have reached 71.623,8 million euros, the highest figure on record and a new record for the eighth year running. 2018 also registered, with 17,239 companies, the highest rate on record of regular exporting companies, i.e., companies that have been selling abroad for the last four years in a row.
Catalan sales abroad represented 25.1% of Spain’s total exports, according to the data made public by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. Among the main export sectors of Catalonia, chemistry (+3,7%, 12,102.2 million euros), pharmaceutical products (+1.6%, 5,107 million euros), machinery (+1.8%, 4,473.8 million euros) and electrical equipment (+4.2%, 3,517.1 million euros) registered records.
On a territorial level, exports in Barcelona reached 55,802.4 million euros (+ 1,9%); 2,082.8 million euros (+0.3%) in Lleida; 8,497.6 million euros (-2.1%) in Tarragona, and 5,241 million euros (-1.1%) in Girona.
