Catalonia-based startups raised €872 million euros in 2018, a record figure that is 53% higher than in 2017. According to Dealroom's European Venture Capital Report, Barcelona is the 5th leading European city for capital investments in startups, together with London, Paris, Berlin and Stockholm.
Home living, transportation, enterprise software and food are the top invested industries in Barcelona this year. By business model, marketplace, commission and eCommerce lead the ranking.
In addition, the Center for American Entrepreneurship states that Barcelona is an ‘Advanced global startup hub’, that is, it performs in the top 10 percent of startup hubs in the world.
Several international venture capital firms have been involved in the main deals over 2018, such as Idinvest Partners, Rakuten Ventures, Kurma Partners, Mangrove Capital Partners, Northzone, Eight Roads, Spark Capital, Creandum and Point Nine.
