The EdTech sector in Barcelona-Catalonia currently generates nearly 900 million euros in annual business volume and more than 4,500 jobs.

In the biotechnology business network in Spain, Catalonia has the highest number of companies at 242 (24.85%), followed by Madrid (17.25%), Andalusia (12.94%), the Basque Country (9.45%), and Valencia (8.62%).

The 2024 edition of the world's biggest and most impactful connectivity event surpassed half a billion euros for the first time, and resulted in the creation of more than 9,200 part-time jobs throughout the city of Barcelona.

For its establishment in Barcelona, Sony AI has had the support of the Catalan government through Catalonia Trade & Investment.

Led by the Swede David Polfeldt, the project will create 50 jobs and focus on the development of AAA video games for PCs and consoles.

Barcelona already has 122,185 digital professionals, which means that almost 55,000 new ICT specialists have been incorporated since 2018.

The company is expanding its presence in Catalonia with new facilities, adding to its three existing centers in Barcelona, Parets del Vallès, and Castellví de Rosanes.

The company will create 30 jobs in the Catalan capital, from where it will centralize the growth of its business activity in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

The study by the international consultancy StartupBlink, which analyzes over 1,000 cities, also identifies Barcelona as the world's leading city in the video game and pharmaceutical industries.
