One of Telefónica Digital’s main operations bases for Barcelona

Telefónica is to choose Barcelona for one of its Telefónica Digital operations bases, as the division looks to consolidate the company’s role in the field to exploit the growth opportunities in the world of digital technology.

Along with its head office in London, Telefónica Digital is planning to open innovation facilities in Silicon Valley, São Paulo, Tel Aviv, Madrid and Barcelona. The Catalan capital will lead R+D projects for the division from its base in the Poble Nou district of the city, near the Culture Forum grounds, using existing space in the new corporate tower block of the Torre Telefónica, from where the group now runs its telecommunications business in Catalonia.

The new group headquarters is set to house some 1,200 professionals working for the company.

Telefónica Digital focuses its efforts on new business opportunities in areas such as M2M services, financial services; such as payments made via mobile telephones, or services connected with healthcare.
