
basf to invest €21m to expand its tarragona-based plant

german group basf, from its spanish subsidiary, will invest €21m to expand its agrochemicals formulation plant in tarragona, where the company manufactures liquid fungicides for sustainable agriculture. the group will now create a new production line and they plan to increase production by 25%, to meet new demand.
basf will invest €21m to implement this project, which represents the biggest investment in just one plant in spain in recent years. the creation of this line will enable the hiring of 30 new employees as of 2016.
the ceo of basf in spain, erwin rauhe, says the fact that this “new generation crop protection products are manufactured in tarragona is a milestone” for this plant.
basf has its spanish headquarters located in barcelona and several production centers, including the tarragona-based and several others in catalonia, in key locations like the zona franca (barcelona’s industrial area), l’hospitalet de llobregat, castellbisbal and rubí.
the group is also present in spanish cities like guadalajara, utreram mejorada del campo, cabanillas del campo and tudela. the group had a €74 bn total turnover all over the world last year and they focus to reach €80 bn in 2015. basf’s sales in spain grew by 12% in 2014.
