June 2013.- There are 1,058 German companies in Catalonia, 45% of the total number of firms from this country based in the whole of Spain.
On June 11th, the Minister of Business and Labour, Felip Puig, met with some sixty German firms with a presence in Catalonia to get a better view of their situation and future prospects. The Minister praised the contribution German firms had made towards growth, employment and strengthening of the economic fabric in Catalonia. Between January and May, 2013, Invest in Catalonia has supported 5 German business projects, representing an investment of some 48 million euros, which will create an estimated number of up to 80 places of work. The Minister also made special mention of the excellent investment opportunities within Catalonia, thanks to its qualified and diverse business base, backed up by a solid offer of suppliers and service companies.
He also took advantage of the meeting to announce the opening of the German company Menshen’s new innovation centre in Terrassa. These facilities will be the company’s Innovation Support Centre, based in the Leitat Technological Centre, forming part of the Tecnio network, and will perform the group’s R&D programme with an open innovation approach.
